we have what you need to know if you hold that stock. til tyler is on vacation. we will join simon hobs in just a few moments. first we go to boston. there has been a big break in the hunt for the boston marathon bombers. new video of a man seen dropping a bag at the site of the bombings. the president is in boston at this hour to mourn with the victims of monday's tragedy. we are live with the very latest developments. scott? >> hello, sue. first we'll start with the memorial service which was entitled healing our city. it ran about an hour and 15 minutes. and president obama who spoke for about 10 minutes or so in a speech that was part sermon and also intended to inspire the

city. >> i'm here today on behalf of the american people with a simple message. every one of us has been touched by this attack on your beloved city. every one of us stands with you. after all it's our beloved city, too. boston may be your hometown, but we claim it, too. >> at this hour the president is still in boston meeting with volunteers and all the while that this was going on, the investigation was continuing, the video evidence that authorities have been looking at includes potentially two individuals that may either be witnesses or may have had a role in the attacks on monday.

there is video of somebody places a bag at the site that may or may not be the bag that contained the bomb. nbc news also reporting that authorities are canvassing hobby stores because some fragments included wiring and batteries. often the type used in toys. so they want to see whether these things were purchased locally and whether this bomb was made from readily available components. >> the investigation is proceeding at a pace, this is not an ncis episode. sometimes you have to take time to properly put the chain

together to identify the perpetrators. >> good advice from the secretary of homeland security. we suspect there will be a long news conference probably sometime this afternoon. >> we look forward to hearing those developments when they occur. there was another major explosion rocking america. it's a still developing story. take a look at these live pictures from the texas fertilizer plant blast. the explosion at the plant has killed up to 15 people, injured more than 160. it was heard as far away as 45 miles and levelled a number of homes nearby. toxic fumes have forced the evacuation of many in that community. simon, down to you. >> we have another down day for stocks. a third down day so far this week. the dow currently down 35 a huge

focus on what apple is going to say next week. itbew $400 a share. and gold earlier, hitting a new 52 week low. let's bring in steve, director of institutional sales. what are the clients saying? >> there are so many variables as there has been for the last six or seven years. but now? never more than -- i'm sorry. more than it's ever been right now. >> a lot quieter today. >> and they are looking at the 50 day moving average. >> the important thing is we were in an up market, at least going into monday. now we have got two days. monday and wednesday, 90% to the

downside. heavy volume on the downside. that made traders think maybe we're on an up trend. >> mondays use to be mutual fund mondays where they added. it's changed now. mondays are the sell day. they see what the weekend has held and it's usually a bad headline coming out of europe. and they use monday to liquidate their assets. >> do you feel we are shaking down to the individual corporate stories perhaps to a greater extent than we did? >> i think we were but now we're back to that macro, back up to the view of the markets. you have terrorism, you have europe. you have a lot of these different issues that are still at the forefront. >> the market is a bit of a victory? >> 100%. but more that w linger around this 50 day moving average, the more we test it, the more likely that we dip below it. you have to have your shopping list. you have to look at your googles and apples and see if you want

>> let's take a look at morgan stanley. it has been losing ground as well. right now it is trading at or near its lows of the trading session, down 3 and 3.75%. the investment banks saying that revenues fell 40% in the first quarter. a much sharper decline than goldman sachs or jp morgan simon? >> let's have a look at shares, the revenue overall. >> united health care is in negative territory.

as we told you, there wz a massive explosion right outside of waco. hundreds have been injured. it wiped out a number of homes nearby. they had to evacuate half of the town. a very dramatic, deadly scene and one that is still under investigation to see exactly what triggered that massive explosion. there has been market fall out? >> just look at it from an equity perspective. take a look at this. most outperforming the broader market.

the analyst does not see near-term impact. long term it's not a huge issue. but if people get skittish about ammonia plants, then companies do benefit. that might be the reason behind today's trade. they say this facility was not a production facility, but was a retail facility. it was small and local, regulation when it comes to ammonia is still pretty tight. the representative said she had never seen an explosion like this in her 21 year career. joel jackson said the only increased regulation is never allowing a facility like this that close to a school. >> or nursing home. >> this this happened in the middle of the day, it would be a much different story. >> we willonto fol

affecting properties. the epicenter of what is also known as the sequester. mark is with us from washington. mike, welcome to the program. goldman noted that both you and marriott have been the most vocal in your warnings of what the sequester could do. did it hit the quarter? >> we did not see any impact from see questioquestration at . we have begun to see signs of the impact. ironically enough it has not been in washington d.c. we have experienced some minor cancellations across the country, but thankfully it has not been in new york city. you are seeing a drop in the booking leads that we track for

government business in dc. >> city says that some investors are going to be frustrated with the guidance you are giving, which is cautious and you are deliberately making room in case more of the sequester actually materializi materializi izize materializes. >> we feel good about the position that we're in. we're happy that the worries we were concerned about did not materialize. and we feel good about where we are in the second quarter. and hopefully there is no impact of see questioquestration latere year. obviously we will do better than the low end of our range. so we feel pretty good about that. >> pointed out a couple of weeks ago that you have underperformed the rest by about 13% so far this year. therefore they said you would outperform for the rest of the year. why do you think people should buy your stock? what are you doing with those properties? >> i think there is a lot of concern over two things.

the dc impact and that mark that we're concerned about for this year. but, the path will be worth it because we'll -- we're going to split the hotel into two pieces. but the west has hotel and we have grand exploitations with the performance of those. >> you know, everybody says the major dynamic is a fact as a result of the crisis, so few hotel rooms are coming on stream now that you guys that already have properties are going to make buckets of money or higher margins as we work through the next couple of years. do you believe that? >> well, we're in a gray part of the cycle right now.

and so, you have been seeing that in terms of revpar gains. it's our believe that as long as those stay in sync, we should be in good shape. >> good to see you again. mike, the ceo of lasalle hotel properties. and now a down day for the markets? >> but you know, a mixed picture from some of the mobile suppliers. it forecasted a disappointing outlook, but indirect supplier of apple says that mobile chip demand is driving earnings growth. this is one of the bright spots in tech. the stock up better than 6%.

the stock down about 6%. looking back over the last ten years. ibm's one day reaction. over the falling 5 weeks. more than 70% of the time. that's a great stat. >> thank you so much. the gold market. >> tracking the action for us. silver still has not been in recovery most quite yet. >> not quite yet. >> and the balance as you mentioned. right around 1392. looks like where we're going to settle for the day. and we have seen gold prices as high as and actually above the 1400 level but unable to sustain above that mark.

they now believe the fair value for gold is 1300. they see a trading range between 1050 and 1500 an ounce particularly when you look at what the action has been, you can see that this has been happening. we are also seeing strong buying of china. the china gold association reporting that retail sales tripled. that is something that is also gaining ground. keep your eye on copper. we are right around a key technical level. and we'll see whether or not copper is able to hang on to some strength. >> once in a generational move on gold in a couple of days.

thank you both. it's actually quite quiet today. >> that's a good thing. quiter in the commodity markets, you want to see that? copper after a 52 week low? you don't want to see it dropping more. stock market very similar situation. take a look at the dow jones industrial average. not nearly as great today. i think it was due to walmart.

materials have been hit badly this week. stable. financials back just a little bit this week. and finally one thing i find interest i interesting the vix is not dropping today. >> we saw interest rates dip once again today. we have the tenure at about 1.69%. a lot of that had to do with data and continued jitters about whether or not the volatility is evidence from the vix will continue to move the market. we did have such a huge move that a lot of traders say that although they don't necessarily want to be in the treasury

maet they are hgibit. and also they are putting a little money into the note. that is because stocks are falling today after new data showed business activity slowed a bit in april. for the week, the dough and the s&p are down 2% or more. what is that telling us about the market as we get into earnings season a little bit further? we welcome back our power pla r player, chief equity strategy, it has worked in the past is that what we're starting to see? >> i hate to use a rime or a simple rule that a certain time of the year is a bad time to begin the market. inflation expectations are down. and yet for the last month while this is going on, stohave ignored all of it.

and in the last four or five days, stocks are basically saying maybe there is something else. >> and that is evidenced by the move in the gold market, too. i think it's velocity that the market has moved. >> you highlight the vix. it went from 12 to 17 and in a wink. the work that we have done shows that for every which means that the s&p should probably be down. >> we have had a very good year. i find it ironic that people are reacting with a lot of concern. everybody was saying we're due for a pull back. it just doesn't seem to make too much sense. >> if you look at what has been driving the market forward it's not better fundamentals.

it's hard to say that the fundamentals are propelling the market forward. so the market is telling you that there is a bit of softness here so it has been a disconnect, if you will. >> what is an investor to do? are you bullish longer term for the rest of the year after we get through this period of time? if you are, where do you allocate cash? >> some of this depends on how far the market pulls back. >> five or ten% from where we are now? >> correct.

really for the whole year. >> which one do you like the best? which would be the top of your list? >> i think that the consumers surprisingly holds up well in all of this and has been throughout the whole recovery as staples and discretionary. very unusual for these defensive groups to be leading the market in up turn. if the market pulls back they will lead in the pull back and more. >> which is highly unusual. >> very unusual. >> thank you so much. >> a pleasure. >> see you again soon. >> sue, shamu is going public.

black stone taking its sea world entertainment group three years after it went private. jane wells is outside the world famous sea world in san diego. have you spoken to shamu yet, jane? >> very good. shay-moo is a london whale. i have not spoken to him. i just didn't want to make the big whale angry. ths turning into a whale of a deal. it keeps getting bigger. black stone which bought sea world was going to sell 10 million of its own shares. now this march of the penguins, sea world plans to use its portion to pay fees and debt.

so all told, we could have nearly 30 million shares priced between 24 and $27. this for a company with 11 walter parks. most revenue is now coming from florida and sea world sales, profits and spend per customer is all growing. it is a unique leisure company. >> i loved shamu so much so i can't wait for my son to have that in his life, as well. >> i want to see the sharks and sting rays. >> my favorite was the dolphins. >> you can't see that stuff in kansas. >> his only complaint was that it's a little expensive. it's not as expensive as disney land.

both ways because they get less money on the mobile apps. >> let's talk about microsoft. i can't really ask you if you're a buyer. >> how long is it $25? or $28? look, for get about weak pc shipments. how much are they shipping in terms of windows? should be flat to up a little bit here. that's a huge revenue driver. they have got a new edition out. that's probably their biggest margin business. >> really it's the server and tools division. also the business division as bob mentioned.

yahoo! search businesses doing pretty well here. >> let's turn to -- speaking of where we are with enterprise, let's turn to big blue ibm reporting. what have you indicated there? >> look, the important thing here is this is the real tell. this is the most important company. best is not pcs. you think they're not glad they sold the pc business? what was that? like 2004? that was the trade of the century. it's 60% services these days. maybe 20% software. if you want to see a slow down in itxpc this is where you're going to see it. >> it's really tricky.
